New London, Class of 2022. Senior photos in the park and on the farm in Dale, WI.
You know I love shooting senior photos in new places and I really love including animals in my senior sessions. I got the best of both with this one! For Rachel’s senior session (great name by the way) we headed to Daufen Park in Dale. I haven’t driven through the little town in a very long time. My senior clients don’t remember the days before Hwy 10 was four lanes. When I got my license, going from Waupaca to Appleton meant going through tiny little towns and getting stuck behind farm equipment. And one of those little towns was Dale. Little did I know that just on the other side of the mill lies this great little park! Rachel or her mom had thought of it and it was perfect.
I love when I have a girl that wears something summery and girly, like the yellow dress Rachel picked. Walking around through the flowers (otherwise known as weeds) gives that casual free feeling that should be paired with senior year. Then when that same girl throws on jeans and boots to lead around 1200 pounds of beefy bovine – my heart!
Gotta love the beefers…
I always plan for a little extra time when we involve animals in senior photos. You know they never want to cooperate! Dogs like to face away from me, horses like to watch everything but me, and cows would much rather graze than pose for photos. Rachel did an awesome job with her two, even getting them both in at the same time.
A little cattle tidbit for you: if you’ve never showed cattle, you might not realize how challenging it can be to handle two at once. The showman is always on the animal’s left. So to hold two for pictures and get them in a good position, one animal has to be led from the “wrong” side. And any cow or steer will think if you’re not on the correct side, you are not in charge.
Rachel had some great contrast in her session goin from light yellow to black. Before I even got out of my mom van I knew I had to use the white wrapped bales. Pairing those against her black just makes everything look sharp and clear, just the way I like to shoot! I loved this session. Come to think of it, there hasn’t been a farm session yet that I didn’t like. Guess I have a type.
