Alisha and Ben’s backyard outdoor wedding on a perfect May day in Waupaca, WI.
Planning an outdoor ceremony is always a bit of a gamble but it worked out for Alisha and Ben. Perfect weather paired with a pretty little spot at her parents house and a short and sweet ceremony made this day just what they had hoped for.
Willing to roll with it…
Talk about a low stress bride – nothing bothered Alisha. She even surprised herself with her lack of nerves and that’s how it should be when you’re marrying your best friend, there’s really nothing else that matters. Even when it’s time to get in the dress and the discovery is made that the last round of alterations were never done and there’s a row of pins around the inside of the skirt where there should be stitching. A box of safety pins and fantastic bridesmaid crew to the rescue! When the groom’s shoes were killing him, she said nope. Put on something more comfortable because who wants to be uncomfortable saying their vows? This is the kind of bride a photographer loves! Oh – and a groom by the way!
A forgiving timeline….
Let’s chat about the importance of a great timeline for a second. These two realized early on that there wasn’t a whole lot of time between the ceremony at her parents’ and the reception a few miles down the road. The party wagon would barely have time to make a stop if we did photos in that time. That is the biggest benefit of a first look and I’m so so very happy they chose to do one!
Even with the setback of working on the dress, we got the first look, all the bridal party portraits, most of the couple portraits and the family formals done in time for the bride to go into hiding before a bunch of guests arrived. It made the whole day go so smooth. As soon as the ceremony was over, the bridal party grabbed their stuff and hopped on a wagon. Ben’s Farmall was their chariot as they headed off to start the party (or maybe continue the party would be more accurate)!
When the wagon rolled into the reception they were all ready to get inside for dinner – some with the sunburns to prove it. The temps don’t have to be high for the sun to be burning people! A great dinner served, some funny speeches, great conversations and lots of beer all came together to make this the day they had dreamed of for a long time.
Alisha and Ben – thank you for letting me be a part of your day! I enjoyed every minute and even got to catch up with some old friends! P.S. – the orange dreamsicle cupcakes were AMAZING!
